Day 9

Image
Try a gear and it stops. Just for grins try again and it stops the exact same place. Ugh... User seektwong on the Indiegogo comments suggested using Vase mode.  So I picked a simple vase and set the infill to 0% and scaled it down to 25% Success! So what is it making it get stuck?

Day 8

Took a break. Removed the bottom cover and tried a couple prints w/ it over an AC vent to see if it was overheating and that was why it stopped printing.  It would stop within a minute or two.  Went back to the original cat and tried it and it seems to printing ok, about 1/4 done now and still going.  So maybe its something magical about the auto00.g file?? We will see if it finishes. Oh well... At least the printer was still going... Looking through the auto00.g file the bottom line is a Cura profile string: ;CURA_PROFILE_STRING:eNrtWttu20YQfSWMfsQ+pmiskpTkSwQ+NKmdl6QIahdN/EKsyJW4NckldpeWZUP/3rPLiyibRpzEaC6lgNjg4czs7MyZixGldM1kmDC+THTgjnxnRdM01AmPLnOmVOABkkxLGmku8pDldJ6y4FyWzFEi5XGYWgNbBXd04Cw4bMQsV1yvA991CslzHaqCsTgYN4+aZQWTVJeSBd5xD+oHPeC4D5z0gdMWnLN457RD11FlUQipgz9EzpwipXohZBbSOGEK1wz+pAvdyIRxSdOQXWtZ2ncvhU6cFS9YqMWKyeCUpop1gPBKpGWGO00dIW5YqBLO0rgWQ2RoxuBTzPFbQ90bHU7vw+bu98BxHzjpA6ddcJGKVeC57sh1cnFzk8IlfsOQqEk3s1V2jtwuRjNR5jrYkbPRqF94B6Np913G8xAPVyzFt...

Well I took the bottom off since other people said they were and this is what it looks like inside:

Day 5

Someone requested what it sounds like.  Here it is with a PLA attempt at the cat. and here: Daniel Martin posted on Indiegogo some settings for Slic3r Prusa.  I downloaded it from here: https://github.com/prusa3d/Slic3r/releases and the lucky cat from: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2468350 I imported the configs from the lucky cat.   Selected DeltaMini from Print Settings: Prusa PLA 1.75mm DeltaMini PLA from Printer settings First layer looks pretty bad but I'll let it keep going: Looking like it may end up ok... Oh please work!! Well crap!  It just stopped progress kept going but just stopped.  It was looking pretty good too. You can see the glob where it just stopped. Oh well... I don't think this is a setting... Try the same settings to print something lower. Like the folding multi-tool. Didn't even lower the head all the way before it started printing.  Thats a n...

OK, This is obviously not working well.  I read some more last night and evidently ABS is hard to print.  So I open a box of white PLA. I go to Thingiverse and pick something appropriate to try to print in PLA.  I scale it down to 25%.   After a few false starts and increasing brim sized I get a good little: Thats right a little Turd emoji.  It worked but looks like a pile of strings.  The resolution is obviously off. So I try again and make it a little bigger. Much better.  Still a little coarse and not smooth.  But I get a marker and give it eyes and lips and hand it to my 11 year old as she heads out for her first day of school. I go back to the Pagolin and pick the other feet and print them after a couple tries: Not very smooth but at least the worked.  I try to print a Tinkerbell next at 25% and it makes it to her head then breaks lose from the bed.  I try different brim sizes and start playing with the temperatures...

After the good chess piece.  I tried and tried and tried and tried to get anything to print. My 14 year old daughter comes in and says maybe they are too tall and picks a wrench to print. I'm getting frustrated now... I do another 10 print attempts tweaking every option or so and no luck nothing.  This stinks. I come back in the evening and try to print and nothing comes out the nozzle. Crap!  I run a fine guitar string through it and it goes through but nothing prints.  I try a bigger guitar string and it won't go through.  I try the small one again and it bends about 2cm in. Ok what do I have to lose.  I look up some videos on cleaning extruder jams.  I take the fan clips off, loosen the set screw and pull the Bowden Tube? up.  Heat up the nozzle push some filament into the Hot End?  and nothing.  It is jammed up tight.  I get a 7mm wrench and small crescent wrench and unscrew the nozzle.  I use dental picks and ...

Emboldened by a good cat print,  I installed Cura from the micro SD card.  On a Windows 10 PC. Followed the instructions on the PDF on the micro SD card and added my custom printer.  Went to Thingiverse and downloaded the Pagolin and loaded the front and hind feet and generated the .gcode, copied it to the micro SD, moved the SD to the back of printer and clicked print, selected the .gcode file and it promptly moved the head down tapped the 3 corners to auto-level then drove the head off the bed and into the "Do Not Touch" label where it got hung and vibrated very loudly until I could navigate to the cancel button and select it.  Then I selected to home it. Double check settings and try again. Same thing... Triple check setting and try again. Same thing... So I decide something must be screwed up. I install the Repetier software on the SD card.  I don't remember exactly what happened with it but after setting up it also missed the bed. So I try dow...

First off this is my first adventure into 3D printing.  I am a complete newbie but since pre-ordering on Indiegogo back in May I have been diligently watching all videos and reading all articles on 3D printing I could. I don't intend to knock MonoPrice in any way.  I chalk all my problems up to my inexperience, and my mistakes. This is an ongoing story.  But I intend to continue until I get this thing to work. I received my MonoPrice Mini Delta 3D Printer on Monday 7/31/2017. Packaging was fine.  Machine looks and feels sturdy. Unboxing was uneventful. I loaded a roll of HatchBox ABS 1.75MM Navigated through the very easy menus and nice screen to "print" and selected the auto00.g file (which was the only thing that looked like it might be printable). First result was:  Then it broke lose of the bed and started spinning around. I figured it was an adhesion problem. So I had read that glue sticks work so I got one of my daughters glue ...
