History - Day 4

OK, This is obviously not working well.  I read some more last night and evidently ABS is hard to print.  So I open a box of white PLA.

I go to Thingiverse and pick something appropriate to try to print in PLA.  I scale it down to 25%.   After a few false starts and increasing brim sized I get a good little:
Thats right a little Turd emoji.  It worked but looks like a pile of strings.  The resolution is obviously off.

So I try again and make it a little bigger.

Much better.  Still a little coarse and not smooth.  But I get a marker and give it eyes and lips and hand it to my 11 year old as she heads out for her first day of school.

I go back to the Pagolin and pick the other feet and print them after a couple tries:
Not very smooth but at least the worked.  I try to print a Tinkerbell next at 25% and it makes it to her head then breaks lose from the bed.  I try different brim sizes and start playing with the temperatures.  I try something more simple and get the circle square from Thingiverse and give it a go scaled down to like 50% (I think).

Looking better.  The bed adhesion is still not right so I bump up the filament temps and the bed temps and play around with several attempts:

Finally I get it laying down a good"ish" first layer and print the calibration cube.

This is the best print I've had in days.  One side is really smooth.  The letters arent as crisp as I like but maybe I have everything figured out.  I try a bigger Tinkerbell:
This time it prints good but the print head hangs and the progress bar continues to increment.  After about 3 min of it not moving and looking like its going to catch on fire I cancel it.

The other side wasn't as smooth.

Frustrated.

I decide to just see what the cat does in PLA.

Broke loose.  Maybe I will manually edit the gcode and change the filament and bed temps to the values in the calibration cube?

I'm tired...
